Exceptionally well preserved nature, bio-diversity, beautifully arranged landscape parks are all reasons why your hosts will surely recommend a visit to the untouched Brijuni Islands. But, this is not all. The Islands also have their interesting story from classical times up to the present. Some of the leading figures that visited Brijuni were Emperor Franz Joseph and the Queen of England, as well as numerous heads of state in more recent times. The Brijuni Islands have attracted well-known celebrities over the past years: Mario del Monaco, Naomi Campbell, Placido Domingo, and many others.

A tour of Veliki Brijun by tourist train will show you that the Romans were well aware of the meaning of pleasure. In lovely Verige Bay there are remains of a Roman villa rustica from the 1st century. After Paul  Kupelwieser had turned Brijuni into a health resort at the end of the 19th century the islands began to attract the European élite as a fashionable resort. An interesting period was also between 1954 and 1979 when Josip Broz Tito received numerous statesmen and celebrities as guests at his residence on  Brijuni. A permanent photo exhibition records all these moments.

The same building also houses a collection of stuffed animals that were brought by statesmen from all over the world. The excursion program includes a tour of the safari park as well where you’ll see fallow deer, mouflon, axis deer, along with zebras, Somalian sheep, Indian cattle, one-humped camels, lamas and elephants.
Part of the excursion program is also a visit to the Archeological Museum housed in the Venetian fortress, as well as visit to the small Gothic church of St. German from the 15th century where copies of Istrian frescoes and Glagolitic monuments are exhibited.

The Brijuni archipelago consists of 14 islands, with a surface of 7.4 km2 , altogether measuring 47 km of coastline. The coastline is mostly rocky, low and accessible.

Departure for the excursion which lasts 4 hours is from Fažana by boat. Apart from a visit to Veliki Brijun, there are also organized visits to Mali Brijun with free time for swimming.
