358 – Biodiversity Trail

This moderately demanding trail starts from the parking lot at the entrance to Premantura.

Immediately after the parking lot, it turns right and descends through the forest emerging onto the asphalt road towards the significant landscape area of Lower Kamenjak and the Medulin Archipelago. You enter Kamenjak before the ticket booths and go up to the Austrian artillery batteries from World War I. After that, the trail descends to the road and after going past dry Mediterranean grasslands, it enters the forest above the Podlokva cove. From this point until reaching the road to the Škara peninsula, its mostly single trail. The trail goes around the Škara peninsula, from where it offers a breathtaking view over the islands of the Medulin Archipelago, the islands of Kvarner and the mountain of Velebit.

The trial then goes on to Lanterna (Viewpoint), from where it leads to the southernmost peak of Istria, going around the Franina peninsula. From the cove of Debeljak it goes up again, to the Viewpoint, and from there descends into the biggest cove of Donji Kamenjak, Portić. As the ride continues, the trail reaches the western coast and the enchanting Njive cove, and then goes past the Istrian farm and descends to the Polje cove, where there’s the local fishing port. From Polje, along single trails, it goes back to the asphalt and along a single trail back to the starting point.
