138 – PUNTA Educational Trail
Punta Educational Trail is located at the very tip of the Kamenjak peninsula. It is circular – it starts and ends at Vidikovac (Lookout), in the immediate vicinity of the Safari Bar. You can reach Vidikovac by car.
Vidikovac offers a beautiful view of the open sea, the Medulin Archipelago, Medulin and Premantura, the islands of Cres and Mali Lošinj, as well as Velebit in the distance. And sometimes, when visibility is really good, you can see the outlines of other islands of the Cres-Lošinj Archipelago. This lookout also provides a great view of the Porer Lighthouse, built on the rock of the same name.
If you take this educational trail, thanks to the information boards, you will learn a lot about the flora and fauna in the protected landscape of Kamenjak. You will discover who is the beauty of the Mediterranean meadows or the soft-hearted killer…
You will learn that as many as thirty species of orchids grow on Kamenjak, some of which can be found only here and nowhere else in the world. Take a good look and you may notice some of these wonderful plants, but be careful: orchids are protected and picking them is prohibited.
While walking along this trail, we advise you to be careful, because in addition to many plants, many animals live here too. It is not uncommon to see a squirrel or a rabbit, as well as a dormouse or a badger, and sometimes even a deer.
As you walk along the trail, you’ll see beautiful pebble beaches and cliffs, and enjoy the beautiful views wherever you look.
An hour is enough to tour the trail, but it is possible that you’ll be intoxicated by its beauty and will want to stop, rest or swim in one of the coves.
At the end of your hike, we recommend you take a break in the Safari Bar – an unusual bar built of natural materials and surrounded by playground equipment for children, made entirely from natural and recycled materials. This beautiful oasis, as well as other beach bars, which are open in the summer months, is the right place to take a break and appreciate the beauties of Kamenjak.
NOTE: From May to the end of November, there is an entrance fee to the Protected Landscape of Lower Kamenjak for motor vehicles (for pedestrians and cyclists entrance is free all year round). For more information, click HERE
